A Quick End-of-Summer CPAP Check-In

end-of-summer CPAP Check-in Snore MD

Summer is often filled with travel, late nights, and busy schedules—which can sometimes push CPAP therapy to the back burner. As the season winds down, it’s the perfect time to pause, check your equipment, and make sure you’re set up for better sleep in the months ahead.

1. Give Your CPAP Machine a Good Clean

Regular cleaning helps prevent bacteria build-up and ensures your machine is working at its best. Wash your mask, tubing, and water chamber regularly with mild soap and warm water, then air dry completely.

2. Check Your Mask Fit and Seal

A comfortable, well-fitting mask is essential for effective therapy. If you’ve noticed air leaks, marks on your face, or discomfort during the night, it may be time to adjust the fit or explore a different mask style.

3. Replace Cushions, Filters, and Tubing

Over time, CPAP parts naturally wear out. According to Health Canada recommendations:

  • Masks: Replace every 6 months
  • Filters: Replace every 3 months
  • Tubing: Replace every 12 months

Worn-out parts can reduce comfort, lead to air leaks, and compromise the effectiveness of your therapy.
